Sculpture and Reflections: Mission Beach

Located near the Life Guard Station at Mission Beach, the sculpture captures the regional emphasis on surf and sun. Also captured is the effect of sunlight shining through the sculpture and reflected on the sidewalk below.

Sea Port Village, a favorite shopping and eating destination for locals and visitors alike, has a plethora of fine shops, some of which feature fine art and sculpture. I like this piece of ultra realism, featuring a sculpture that stands outside the shop door, because of the image composition and bright sunlit colors contrasted with the subdued and slightly out of focus background.

Sculpture: Meditation on Water

Located in the courtyard of the House of Hospitality, Balboa Park, the sculpture is by noted local artist Donal Hord. The image was captured with angular winter mid-morning light, which allowed its many exquisite features to be highlighted in perfect bas relief. Using a high shutter speed, the water from the spout is captured in mid-motion.
