On VJ Day (Victory over Japan) following World War II, photographer
Alfred Eisenstaedt took this memorable photo in New York's Times Square, later published in
Life Magazine, that soon became an iconic image of the euphoria at wars end. The photo is now immortalized as a 20 foot statue on the San Diego Bay Embarcadero adjacent to the
USS Midway Memorial Museum.
