Giraffe: A Gentle Giant

An 18 foot tall curious giraffe approaches the photographer at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. The natural food of the giraffe is the leaf from the Acacia tree. When one has a supply to offer, the gentle giant will feed willingly from one's hands. The Acacia plant has many thorns on its branches, and the long eyelashes of the giraffe are designed to alert the animal when the points become too close to its eyes.
