While sitting near Bird Rock in Pacific Beach at dusk following a storm, I noticed a young woman walking the beach with her dog. I waited for the moment in which setting and composition came together before taking the photo. I especially like this image because the impression of friendship between the girl and her dog combines with the more somber tone of solitude, providing contrast without contradiction. Notice how the golden reflection from setting sun on the wet sand provides a frame for the girl and her dog. Also notice that they appear to be walking out of the frame, which naturally adds a sense of mystery to the composition, making one wonder what she may be thinking and the emotions she may be experiencing at this one moment in time.
